Square Enix is finally pulling the plug on the Playstation 2 and Xbox 360 servers for Final Fantasy 11, after 16 years running.

However, the game is far from dead. Those who still want to play the game can still do so on the PC version. Players who wish to make the jump can do so with these steps.

The closure isn’t a sudden one though, with Square Enix announcing last year that they will be terminating the servers at the end of March 2016. At least they’ve managed to wrap up the storyline over the last few updates, with the last update happening last November.

Final Fantasy 11 originally launched in 2002, receiving five expansion packs and a variety of add-ons over the years, also allowing for cross-console play between PS2 and Xbox players. Its still going fairly strong, with an even bigger player base than Final Fantasy 14 which launched in 2013.

Square Enix will continue supporting the game and are co-developing a mobile client with Nexon; which is to be launch this year.
