Luc Besson is back with another movie that looks to be one of the best visual experiences of the year. Or perhaps it’ll be an absolute sh*t show like Jupiter Ascending.
When the trailer for The Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending first dropped, it promised to be a visual stunner. Watching the actual movie, though, I hoped I would’ve gotten a Stone Cold Stunner and died on the spot cause the movie sucked. Big time.
Luc Besson, just like The Wachowski’s is a curious case. He’s great at creating stunning imagery and I really enjoyed The Fifth Element. But, Lucy? While it wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t any good either. Mind you, Lucy stars Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets – based on the French graphic novel, Valérian and Laureline – LOOKS visually stunning as well. Check out the trailer below.
The problem is, the trailer doesn’t offer anything else other than aesthetics. There is hardly a single line of dialogue and unless you’ve read the graphic novel, you’d have no clue as to what the movie is about. In addition, this movie doesn’t have big stars like ScarJo and Morgan Freeman. Dane DeHaan is a solid actor, but Cara Delevingne is just very pretty.
I’m looking forward to this movie, but I also expect it to bomb big time at the box office and amongst critics as well. But hey, for all I know, this could end up being the next Avatar.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is set to be released in Malaysian cinemas on July 20.
