Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice might have been panned by critiques worldwide, but that still didn’t stop it from raking in the moolah. And with the financial success of the movie, it seems the powers that be at Warner Bros. have decided that we once more, will need another stand-alone Batman movie, and with Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight of course.
The speculation for a solo Batman movie was finally put to rest, as Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara officially announced the project during a presentation at CinemaCon. This would be the third time Batman gets his movie series and it wasn’t too long ago that Christian Bale let go of the cape for The Dark Knight Rises (2012).
While official confirmation has yet to be made, the announcement implies that Affleck would be both in the suit as well as in the director’s chair. And while this might be somewhat surprising for some, with his previous experience as a director, in Gone Baby Gone, Argo and The Town, it might be an interesting thing to see having the director of the movie playing the man in the Bat-suit.
As the project is still in its early stages, it is uncertain where would the Batman movie fit in the established timeline of DC’s Extended Universe. However, considering Affleck’s age, we would assume it wouldn’t be an origin story reboot and might instead focus on a more established and weathered Batman. We might possibly see a live-action version, or at least a variation, of Frank Miller’s Batman.
The only clue of the plot is the participation of DC’s Chief Creative Officer, Geoff Johns who is taking charge of the script. It also has been reported that Affleck will also be part of the script writing process with Johns.
The movie is expected to be out within the next five years. However, it is likely that it would be one of the dates announced by Warner Bros last week, either October 5th, 2018 or November 1, 2019.
We’ll keep you posted on any more updates on this new Batman movie.
