With the fourth Star Trek movie in progress, its a shame that one character will no longer be making an appearance.

Following the untimely death of Anton Yelchin, Ensign Pavel Chekov won’t be recast for any future films, as stated by producer J.J Abrams.

“I would say there’s no replacing him,” said Abrams. “There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better.” Yelchin played Chekov in 2009’s series reboot, Star Trek, and its two sequels, 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness and the new film Star Trek Beyond.

As for the character himself, the filmmakers aren’t sure how they will handle the Chekov character going forward, because its simply too early to talk about it; Abrams said.

Yelchin died last month in a freak accident where his SUV rolled down his driveway and caused his unfortunate demise.
