An accidental tweet by Yajimaya Bookstore HQ has revealed that the popular Shonen Jump! manga, Food Wars: Shokugeki no Souma, is getting its own anime adaptation. The tweet was deleted pretty soon, but Shueisha confirmed it later on which caused a lot of excited talk amongst the Japanese anime fans.
Later on, the Tweet below confirmed the news with a scan image of the confirmation.
The anime is slated for 2015 release with casts like Makoto Furukawa (Aldnoah Zero, Golden Time), Sora Amamiya (Aldnoah Zero, Akame ga Kill!) and Kana Hanazawa (Akame ga Kill!, Angel Beats!). Some famous and veteran anime production staffs are also attached to the project including director Takashi Watanabe (Shakugan no Shana & Senran Kagura). Scripting will be handled Hiroyuki Yoshino (Accel World, Code Geass) and it will be animated by Production IMS (Date A Live, Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu).
The manga is known for combining cooking and ecchi (fanservice) scenes and follows the story about a Yukihira Souma. the son of a small eatery chef, Yukihira Jouichirou. All Souma dreams is to work in his father’s eatery and beat his father in cooking skills. One day he receives a rude shock when the place is closed down after his father goes to Europe to cook. Jouichirou than challenges Souma to survive and graduate from an elite cooking school where only 10% of the entrants pass. His cooking adventures then begin from there.
With predecessors from Shonen Jump! like Naruto, Slam Dunk and One Piece having reached big popularity worldwide with their jump to anime, there’s good reason why an anime adpatation of Food Wars: Shokugeki no Souma will be causing quite a stir.
