FOX is close to nailing a deal for a live action X-Men TV series.

According to the Fox Television Group chairman and CEO Dana Walden, “[For] X-Men, we’re in negotiations with Marvel. We’re hopeful we’ll be able to announce something soon. We’re not closed on a deal yet, but it’s something we’re definitely pursuing,” at the Television Critics Association summer press stop on Thursday.

The potential series will have Patrick McKay and John D.Payne as the writer team while Evan Katz (24) and Manny Coto (24, 24: Live Another Day) will act as the showrunners.

While 20th Century Fox has the film rights to X-Men, the TV counterpart has to negotiate with Marvel to use the characters on TV. This is bound to be complicated since some X-Men characters like Wolverine and Deadpool are still doing their thing under Marvel on television right now (in animated series).

The characters from the X-Men franchise are with Fox on the feature side so we won’t be including Marvel characters that are at ABC with Disney. This will be exclusively the franchise as it has existed at Fox” Walden insisted. She also said the goal is to have a “long-running” series, not a limited run like 24: Live Another Day or Prison Break.

But how the X-men TV series will work without Wolverine?
