Recently, The Wrap reported that Channing Tatum (G.I Joe, Jupiter Ascending) might walk out of the solo Gambit movie.
This is a big news since he is co-producing the movie with Reid Carolin and they already got a competent director in the shape of Rupert Wyatt (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) after a difficult search. Recent reports also suggested that the budget for the movie is not cheap either, estimated around US$150-160 million. Not only that, the actor is a passionate supporter of the project and is continuously speaking up for it whenever he can which prompted FOX to push this project forward. He even did the memorable group selfie with casts of X-Men and Deadpool for SDCC 2015.
The actor was already doing screen-testing with actress Lea Seydoux in search for a leading lady in the movie and he also talked about preparing to be Gambit – the accent, costume plans during his promo tour for Magic Mike XXL. The Wrap said that the actor representatives are in “active discussions” with FOX but also add that“something is up.”
The movie is set to hit the cinemas on 7 October 2016 but this recent development is putting this target in a no deal situation.
