Akio Otsuka, Japanese voice actor of Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid series confirmed what we have been fearing all this while – Kojima Productions is dead.
In his bittersweet Tweet, the actor said:
コジプロは解散させられてしまったが、チームの奮闘により作品はどうやらほぼ完成となった。掛け値なしに最高の傑作となった筈！早く「待たせたな」と言いたくて仕方ない(笑)これが最期になったとしとも…MGS は 不滅 です！ コジプ… http://t.co/9zeTNDpNxp

“Kojima Productions was forced to disband, but it appears that the work that the team has been putting their utmost effort into is nearly complete. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I expect it will become their greatest masterpiece. I couldn’t help it. I just wanted to say ‘Kept you waiting, huh?’ (Laughs.) But even if this is the end, Metal Gear Solid is immortal!”
We did not hear anything official from Konami or Kojima Productions, perhaps this is closest thing we can get to official stance for now. We do hear rumours that staff of Kojima Productions are working Metal Gear Solid V as contractors, not as permanent employees and Kojima himself is planning to say goodbye to Konami with the rest of his upper management team. The latter part is said will happen after the contract expires in December this year.
This is a sad ending for such a glorious franchise indeed.
