Game of Thrones AKA the best damn TV Series ever created is slowly coming to an end. We’re currently in our 7th orgasmic season, which will end in six weeks time, and after that, we’ll be down to our final season. But Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss do not seem to be slowing down and are already planning their next show.
The show titled Confederate is described as “unique and ambitious” by HBO programming president Casey Bloys. Variety on the other hand, describes this TV Series as such:
Confederate chronicles the events leading to the Third American Civil War. The series takes place in an alternate timeline, where the southern states have successfully seceded from the Union, giving rise to a nation in which slavery remains legal and has evolved into a modern institution. The story follows a broad swath of characters on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Demilitarized Zone – freedom fighters, slave hunters, politicians, abolitionists, journalists, the executives of a slave-holding conglomerate and the families of people in their thrall.
This show looks to be all sorts of controversial, not to mention extremely interesting. And I expect no less from David Benioff and D.B Weiss. It’s good to know that Confederate will be co-written by Nichelle Tramble Spellman and Malcolm Spellman, writer-producers on The Good Wife and Empire, who happen to be people of colour – necessary for a story of this subject matter.
Confederate will begin production after Game of Thrones completes, so most likely in 2019.
