EAGames

Arguably one of the biggest player in the gaming industry, they have a lot of expectations and skepticism to meet during E3. Despite the heavy emphasis on sports titles like Madden NFL, NBA and FIFA which is the real money maker for the EA, gamers are more interested to see other games under the EA banner such as Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, Star Wars Battlefront and highly anticipated Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The presentation starts with a bang with the first glimpse of Mass Effect since the last controversial ending chapter of Commander Shepard in Mass Effect 3. Bioware promised that this time, the game will be on a completely new setting, with brand new characters and places. If the music is any hint, it strongly suggesting a Western cowboy feel to it, completely lawless frontier to begging to be tamed by fearless people who willing to enforce the law. From the BioWare’s official description:

“While we aren’t ready to go into too many details just yet, as you saw in the trailer and can tell by the name, this game is very much a new adventure, taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy. You will play a human, male or female, though that’s actually not the character you saw in the trailer (more on that later). You’ll be exploring an all-new galaxy, Andromeda, and piloting the new and improved Mako you saw. And through it all, you will have a new team of adventurers to work with, learn from, fight alongside of, and fall in love with.

We built this trailer in Frostbite™, our game engine, and it represents our visual target for the final game. We are thrilled by what we’ve already been able to achieve in bringing Mass Effect to Frostbite and by putting our entire focus on PC and current gen consoles. With the time remaining in development, we’re excited about the possibility to push things even more.”

The game is set for end of 2016.

Next, we have a closer look at a gameplay video for Star Wars Battlefront. The gameplay video presented at E3 is the iconic battle at the ice planet of Hoth when the Imperial attacking the Rebel base. We can see the huge arsenal at the disposal of both sides during the demo – X-Wings, TIE Fighters, AT-AT, AT-ST, Snowspeeders and of course lightsabers. Players can play as either as Darth Vader in the Imperial or Luke Skywalker for the Rebels if they feel like swinging the ol’ laser sword.

Players can either pilot the vehicles or end up as a humble foot soldier in the vast battlefield of Star Wars. The game features single player mode and the new co-op mode with split screen play in consoles like PS4 or Xbox One. Sadly, the publisher said that there will be no space battles in the game (aww) and players can only fight in places like planet Hoth, Tattoine, Sallust and Endor. Boo.

Needless to say, DLCs will come faster than lasers here, first one will come on 8 December to coincide with opening of Force Awakens at the cinema. The free DLC is called Battle of Jakku will include 2 important battles that is depicted in the coming movie.

The game is set for 20 November 2015 release for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Next, we have Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. The story will be focusing on Faith’s past so that pretty much means it is a prequel, but we don’t care we’ve been waiting for it long enough as it is.

In Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, you won’t be using any guns at all,” said senior producer Sara Jansson “We’ve completely removed that aspect of the game. You can’t even pick them up.”

Faith will fight, but she doesn’t kill. Now the fighting is more of an extension of the movement. It builds on the flow. It fits a lot better with the game mechanics. When Faith is in flow, when she stitches together move after move without failing and keeps her momentum going, she’s actually invulnerable to bullets. That can keep her out of harm’s way. It’s only when she stops that she can get hurt.” she continues.

The game is set to run on the roofs again on 23 February 2016 for PC, PS4 or Xbox One.
