Looks like The Witcher is getting its very own pen and paper RPG spinoff. The project will be a collaborative effort between developer CD Projekt Red and R.Talsorian Games, who are also the ones behind the classic pen and paper RPG Cyberpunk 2020 from the 8o’s. CD Projekt Red is also making a game based on Cyberpunk 2020 (aptly named Cyberpunk 2077) with creator Mike Pondsmith.
The RPG will allow players to make their own characters in the world of The Witcher, instead of taking control of the series’ main protagonist Geralt of Rivia like in the games.
CD Projekt Red states; “The Witcher Role-Playing Game will allow tabletop RPG fans to re-create an array of characters known from the Witcher universe and live out entirely new adventures set within the world of Geralt of Rivia,” This is great news for people who have always wanted their own characters set in the universe.
The spin-off will run on Cyberpunk’s Fuzion ruleset and will have the usual steak and potatoes of fantasy RPGs, spells, rituals, monsters and what have you that hasn’t been officially detailed by the creators just yet. But you should be able to build a character of your choosing ala-Dungeons and Dragons, be it a battle hardened minion muncher to a mind controlling spellcasters.
The Witcher is slated for a mid 2016 release, so we’ve still got quite a ways to go so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information as it comes.
