7. A Muppet Christmas Carol

Movie-MCC-Promo03-Crachits

The Muppets bring their own brand of chaos to adapting Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas tale, with a crotchety Michael Caine as the sole non-Muppet in the cast, the mean Ebeneezer Scrooge. Dicken’s tale has become so associated with Christmas (it makes our list more than once) and has been adapted so many times that another adaptation can seem like thatt last mince pie too many after christmas dnner, but adding the The Muppets to the recipe freshened things up considerably.

While the film remains mostly faithful to the original story there’s plenty of room for that patented Muppet Mayhem, with some nice shattering of fourth wall by our narrators, Rizzo the Rat and Dickens/Gonzo as they run into issues keeping up with Scrooge physically as he is magically trasnportted from place to plce by the three Ghosts of Christmas, a privelige not gtanted our arrators and the fim features one of my own personal favourite Muppet Visual gags

Heatwave!

The redemption of Caine’s Scrooge and the subsequent celebration at Bob Cratchiit’s house (AKA Kermit and Piggy’s) should be enough to melt even the most stony of hearts this Christmas.

(For a more alternative Christmas, replace this with A Muppet Treasure Island or just 2011’s  The Muppets but NOT the considerably weaker Muppets Most Wanted!)
