Great news DOTA fans, the International 2015 is set to be broadcasted LIVE by Astro. This will be the first ever live eSports broadcast in the country and it will be televised for free on Astro SuperSport Plus Channel 808 and Astro on the Go.
The International DOTA 2 Championships (TI5) once again returns to The KeyArena in Seattle and the tourney will run from 4 – 9 August 2015, marking the fifth year of the championship.
The championships will test the mettle of 16 teams for more than 17 million USD up for grabs by the victor. Astro will also be producing behind the scenes footage and will specifically be following the progress of our own all Malaysian team, Team Fnatic in the gaming industry’s most lucrative tournament.
As for how this came about, apparently fans of the game have been pestering the broadcaster to show the tournament for some time now and we guess they finally caved. Hopefully this paves the way for more telecasts in the future.
Astro on the Go be accessed via browser here or via the app on both iOS and Android for smartphones and tablets. Just bear in mind, the offer extends only to those who already own an Astro subscription.
Now who said eSports can’t be a mainstream sporting event?
