As George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series hits its 20th anniversary, he’s releasing a brand new book; but not, it’s not The Winds of Winter.
All this started in 1996, and to celebrate its 20th year in existence, Martin made an announcement of a new book; an illustrated special edition of Game of Thrones;
“First published on August 1st, 1996, A Game of Thrones marks its twentieth anniversary today. In celebration of the fantasy masterpiece that started a cultural phenomenon, we’re excited to announce the publication of a special illustrated edition.”
Of course, there’s nothing new with the story but we also get a ridiculous amount of artwork; for a total of 73 black and white illustrations and eight full-colour plates. Some of the artwork is from pre-existing Ice and Fire calendars but 48 of those pieces are brand new pieces never before seen.
Don’t worry though, Martin says that he’s still working on The Winds of Winter. The Game of Thrones Illustrated Edition comes out 18 October 2016.
