Remember when Legendary announced that Godzilla and King Kong were going to duke it out in a new film? they’ve just confirmed that Godzilla vs. King Kong is happening, but only in 2020.
Kong: Skull Island prequel was moved from Universal Studios to Warner Bros. making the possibility for a crossover with Godzilla possible because Warner has the right to participate in any Godzilla sequels.
Skull Island is set to open 10 March 2017, but is the first in a three film deal what is going to include Godzilla vs. King Kong. The sequel, Godzilla 2 is slated for a 8 June 2018 release.

Legendary also produced the 2014 Godzilla film. TOHO, the film makers behind the original films is also producing a new Godzilla flick for release next year, with Hideaki Anno (Evangelion) as the chief director and writer with Shinji Higuchi (Nobo no Shiro, Attack on Titan live action films) is directing the film.
There are also rumours that Guillermo del Toro would love to have Godzilla in a third Pacific Rim movie, if it ever happens. And since we’re on the topic of Kaiju, there’s going to be a short film for Gamera’s 50th Anniversary too.
So, with quite a handful of films featuring our favourite nuclear lizard (and great ape of course), coming over the next few years, are you excited? we know we are!
