San Diego Comic-Con 2015 has come and gone and left in its wake a plethora of announcements, trailers and tantalising hints for a host of geek properties across film, TV comic books and more. It’s a big show so we’ve trawled the web to bring you the best of the news from the show.
1. “It’s not every day you get to build an X-wing”
With Marvel Studios deciding not to attend Comic-Con this year, many assumed that this was more proof that Hollywood was falling out of love with the convention. After con favourites like Scott Pilgrim Vs the World and Tron Legacy failed to live up to box office expectations, the prevailing wisdom was that the geek crowd might not be worth the cost. Luckily Marvel’s Disney owned stable-mate Lucasfilm was on hand to blow that idea clean out of the sky boasting a panel for Star Wars: The Force Awakens that began with film-makers Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Lawrence Kasdan, showed off a practical puppet alien character by the name of “Bobbajo”, reunited Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, and added new cast members John Boyega Daisy Ridely and Oscaar Isaac to the Universe,
Despite Kevin Smith’s USD$10,000 bet that new footage would be shown at the panel, fans weren’t quite treated to a new trailer but were instead shown a behind the scenes reel that will melt the heart of the hardest Sith.
As the sun was setting outside J.J. Abrams lead the 6,000 plus strong Hall H crowd outside, where they were given light-up toy lightsabers and presented with a free live concert featuring the best of Star Wars music over the years, introduced by the maestro John Williams himself. You can get a taste of the show in the following clip.
The whole panel is available it here.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in cinemas on December 18 2015.
