Rumours about a third Gremlins have been floating about the internet for years now, but it seems like the real deal might just be coming up. Zach Galligan, franchise star from the first two films has stated that the new movie won’t be a reboot or a remake  but rather a direct sequel of the originals.

“It’s not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape, or form. Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade.”

The confirmation came about when the original 1984 Gremlins was shown at London’s Prince Charles Cinema where Galligan did a little Q&A with the audience and revealed plans for the movie.

If you’re not acquainted with the Gremlins franchise (or maybe were too young to remember) this might help you out a bit:

The new sequel will apparently be set 30 years after the events of the original two films (which the actor likened to Jurassic World) but he says that he’s not sure if he will be in it yet.

The studio hasn’t put out an official announcement on the movie just yet; but we’re hoping we at least get to see Gizmo again.
