Looks like some new details on our favourite smuggler’s solo movie are out, as confirmed by Disney CEO Bob Iger.
It’s pretty rare for Disney and Lucasfilm to divulge information on Star Wars projects outside of major events and announcements, so while a bit out of character, it’s still quite welcome. Iger didn’t say much (in terms of details) but he did drop a few morsels of info about the upcoming Solo movie to Wall Street Journal reporter Ben Fritz:
Han Solo movie will follow him from age 18 through 24 and show him finding the Falcon, meeting Chewbacca, and getting his name, Iger says

It’s a given that Solo will be meeting Chewbacca in the film (I mean, what is one without the other) but the movie will also be exploring the origins of Han’s name. People have long assumed that his last name was given to describe his character, he worked alone up till he got involved with the Rebels.
After Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which released last year, this would be the second stand-alone anthology in the franchise.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directing the movie, with cast members Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. They’re also joined by Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The as-of-yet untitled Han Solo movie will drop 25 May 2018.
