Just a couple of weeks back, we had a glimpse of what the rebooted Power Rangers Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) would look like. Now we finally get to see the new suits our five heroes will don once they morph.
No more will there be an excess of lycra. Instead, the Ranger’s suits have been given a slightly more modern update, exchanging the campy, lycra and spandex look, to a more futuristic, and somewhat Tron-like design.
The suits are said to crystallise around the Rangers’ bodies and according to the director, Dean Israelite, the suits needed to feel as if they were catalysed by the Ranger’s energy and spirit.
Another reason for the look it seems is to set it apart from all the other reboots that have been hitting the big screen. As Andrew Menzies, the production designer for Power Rangers puts it;
“Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”
We can’t really form an opinion on the new suits yet as we’d really like to see them in action before letting loose. It’s great that the suits are getting a modern and new interpretation but what would fan reactions be to this new look?
