Z-Moves
Adding on to the Mega Evolutions introduced last gen, Pokemon in Sun & Moon are capable of incredibly powerful moves thanks to a ring that the trainer wears and a crystal that the Pokemon carries. There’s a Z Crystal for each type of Pokemon, and the damage is based on their base move
There’s a Z Crystal for each type of Pokemon, and the damage is based on their base move. There’s a catch though, a Pokemon needs to know a move that’s the same type as the Z Crystal else it won’t activate.
So far there’s 18 known Z Moves, and they can only be used once per battle.
Poke Ride(ing)
With Sun and Moon you can use the services of a variety of Pokemon to ride, letting you access parts of the map that you previously weren’t able to on foot. The feature originally came in Pokemon X and Y, but rideable Pokemon are more important now.
Be it on the back of a Mudsdale, Lapras or a Charizard, these Pokemon don’t join your party but will let you do things you previously couldn’t, like smash rocks or surf.
But with this new feature, traditional HM moves like CUT have been rendered obsolete, so you’re going to have to rely on said Pokemon to handle all that for you.
The Poké Pelago
Remember those PC Boxes you used to store your Pokemon in? well they’ve totally changed with Pokemon Sun and Moon. Instead of just being static when stored, Pokemon placed in said boxes can enjoy a feature called the Poké Pelago, a series of islands where Pokemon can explore and play.
You can add more features to your isle, and as the isles develop, you can do things like raise your Pokemon or find items. There’s also a chance to pick up new Pokemon on said islands if they happen to take a shine to you! Certainly a change from the original PC Box system Bill invented.
