The upcoming Power Rangers is really gearing up, now having released the first look of the cast in what appears to be a early movie still.
So far the whole cast hasn’t been shown together, with the current team of alien fighting “teens with attitude” being announced one by one as they joined the movie’s roster.
The cast currently has Becky G, RJ Cyler, Naomi Scott, Ludi Lin and Dacre Montgomery as Trini, Billy, Kimberly, Zack and Jason, with villain Rita Repulsa played by Elizabeth Banks.
Director Dean Israelite says that he wants this superhero story to reflect the lives of teens today, so its also a coming of age story for this new set of “disenfranchised and disparate” teens who aren’t even friends when the movie starts.
Also, the Rangers suit will be getting an update thanks to Weta Workshop and they’re apparently going to look really modern and edgy. So, no more spandex?
“We’ve really pushed ourselves to make them feel different from any other superhero costume that’s out there,” Israelite said. “One key that’s different to the Power Ranger suits is that they’re not really suits that people get into. They’re suits that morph onto our kids, so they already have this almost metaphysical quality to them.”
Stay tuned for more info on the movie as they’re probably got a lot more to show off as their 2017 launch draws nearer.
