We’ve already had a small taste of Bill Skarsgård’s take of Pennywise the Clown for the It reboot, but now he has been revealed in his chilling entirety.
Entertainment Weekly revealed the full costume earlier today and it looks like the new series of movies is taking a more traditional clown look for Pennywise, as opposed to the colourful ensemble of his 1990 incarnation.
The reason for this, as explained by costume designer Janie Bryant, is that the traditional clown look is meant to make Pennywise look more child-like and therefore even creepier. But seriously, how much creepier could they have made Pennywise?
A whole lot.
There is almost a doll-like quality to the costume: The pants being short, the high waistline of the jacket, and the fit of the costume is a very important element. It gives the character a child-like quality.
Bryant also states that this Pennywise isn’t quite like the original; preferring to hide and strike out at victims as opposed to luring them in with a bright and cheerful appearance. Makes sense that his garb is a lot more “shadowy” now. Either way, we’re expecting a terrifying performance.
It hits theaters 8 September. Are you ready?
