If you all have been wondering just how the live-action Ghost in the Shell movie is going to look like, we now might have an idea thanks to some supposed leaks. Some unconfirmed photos have been floating around a couple of Asian sites like Apple Daily which shows what seems to be the live-action versions of the members of Public Section 9
For the uniniated, Public Section 9 is basically the division that Ghost in the Shell protagonist, Major Kusanagi, works at. Throughout the entire anime movies and series, the members of Public Section 9 have been pretty set and recognisable and now, if these leaked photos are to be believed, we finally get to see what their live-action Hollywood versions look like.

Beat Takeshi as Daisuke Aramaki
The big boss of Section 9 himself is played by Japan screen legend Beat Takeshi. Looks like they decided to forego his baldness but tried to keep his trademark hair shape. It does look kind of unnatural and an Aramaki without his goatee just looks weird.
Pilou Asbæk as Batou
Major Kusanagi’s second-in-command. We dig the outfit and it looks very much like what Batou would usually wear but we notice that he doesn’t have his trademark robotic eyes. And that hair and beard though. As far as we remember, Batou doesn’t keep a beard but it does seem to fit but that hair, seriously? Maybe keeping to the anime series ponytail would have been a better look but that’s just us.
Scarlett Johansson as Major Motoko Kusanagi
We’ve already seen some pictures of Scarlett Johannson as the Major so this just adds more fuel to the fire of her playing the character. It’s interesting to see how much the film-makers are REALLY trying to get the hair right XD. And though this might not be the best shot, at least it’s a better look at her character for the live-action movie.
Ng Chin Han as Togusa
Togusa is supposed to be the youngest member of Section 9 and supposedly quite baby faced as well. In fact in some resources, he’s supposed to be around 27 years old. And while we’re quite happy to have Singaporean actor Ng Chin Han play the role (some South East Asian love there), it seems in this picture, he looks anything but young.
Tawanda Manyimo as Boma
Section 9’s resident explosive expert or as we’d usually like to call him, Batou lite. While we can’t exactly tell how big Tawanda is in person, we do like the inclusion of the trademark robotic eyes of his character. Would have like to see him bald but this works too. At least now we won’t joke that the only reason Boma was bald was so we could tell the difference between him and Batou.
Yutaka Izumihara as Saito
Section 9’s resident sniper. While Saito’s character has never really been super fleshed out in the series or movies, everyone remembers him because of that one cybernetic eye of his that looks like it’s been brought forward into the movies.
Lasarus Ratuere as Ishikawa
Section 9’s information warfare and tech specialist. We do admit that Lasarus kinda nails the whole Ishikawa look. Only thing we can’t see is just how big is he. The thing that was always interesting of Ishikawa as a character was that he was one of the bigger sized characters in the Ghost in the Shell anime. Almost as big as Boma and Batou. However his primary role was that of a tech geek, behind the screens, which would have usually been given portrayed by some skinny nerdy looking character. So while he Lasarus gets the look (hair and beard right), it’s his physical size that will make him look pretty convincing as Ishikawa.
So there you have, the supposed leaks of the live-action Ghost in the Shell characters. Almost all of them, with the exception of Pazu, seem to have been leaked. Mind you, we’re not TOO SURE, just how legit these leaks are and you should take it with a pinch of salt. But after all the waiting, it’s nice to see some news about the movie out.
