Looks like One Piece is next to hit the live-action bandwagon, with the popular manga and anime to get its own TV adaptation.
This one isn’t going to be for Japan though, as the Weekly Shonen Jump editor-in-chief Hiroyuki Nakano announced that the show will be turned into an overseas/foreign drama.
The show will be handled by Hollywood producer Marty Adelstein’s Tomorrow ITV Studios, which is also behind the live-action Cowboy Bebop remake. Granted this isn’t the first time One Piece has gone live-action, but this would be the first foreign made series the franchise will be getting.
If you’re worried that the show is going to be ruined (as the fans continuing to yell about Netflix‘s Death Note) I wouldn’t be too worried as One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda was quoted that he “absolutely didn’t want to betray” fans. This is actually the reason why it will be a foreign TV drama as Oda feels that it will ensure quality as to not betray the series’ long time fans. That and the fact that foreign TV dramas tend to have much bigger budgets, so better effects for all!
No word yet on who will be cast for the series, but who do you think will make a good Luffy? let us know in the comments!
