The ‘immersion’ company plans to make the move into the next dimension of theatre-going.
Following on from its giant screens, IMAX has decided it’s going to start to roll out VR in some of its locations starting this year.
The headset of choice is the Starbreeze StarVR headset, which boasts a 210 degree field of view – double that of competitor Oculus Rift – and will be built by Acer.
The VR experiences will be built specifically for IMAX and initial pricing structure suggests 7 to 10 dollars for a 10 minute experience.
IMAX is hoping to open 6 VR-capable locations around the world before the end of 2016..
