The director of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 confirms two actors that would not make a return for the sequel, along with his wishlist for the franchise.

He revealed some information regarding the future of the franchise during a Facebook Q&A session. It’s been confirmed that Benicio Del Toro would not make an appearance in the next Guardians of the Galaxy. However, this does not discount the possibility that his character, the Collector, might not make an appearance in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe soon.

Joining the Collector in absentia would be John C. Reilly’s character, Nova Corps member Rhomann Dey. This is due to his smaller role in the first film.

For the future of the Guardians franchise, the director commented that he would not add Ben Grimm/ the Thing to Guardians of the Galaxy lineup. Despite the fact that the Fantastic Four member, is a currently a member of the Guardians in the comic book.

As Fox own rights to Fantastic Four and a number of villains, such crossover on the silver screen would be complicated but not impossible. But given that Marvel and Sony have agreed to share the rights for Spider-Man, a crossover is not impossible.

In the session, Gunn has also expressed desire to include two villains from Fantastic Four’s roster in future Guardians of the Galaxy films.

The director has expressed interest in including Kang the Conquerer and Annihilus in future instalments. Kang the Conquerer is a time travelling descendant of Reed Richards and Dr. Doom from the 30th century in an alternate Earth while Annihilus is the ruler of the negative zone with superhuman powers and wields the Cosmic Control Rod.

But for now, we have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to look forward too, as Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper are set to return on May 5 next year.
