Hold the phone, when we heard that there was going to be a Jurassic World sequel we weren’t entirely surprised, but now we hear that said sequel is going to be stretched into two movies. The best part? they claim that Jurassic World was meant to be a trilogy to begin with.

Following the enormous success of Jurassic World, we honestly weren’t very surprised that there was going to be a sequel to start, with rumours floating around the last few months. Universal has just confirmed this, with executive Donna Langley stating that Jurassic World 2 and 3 (the titles haven’t been nailed down yet) are in the works.

Colin Trevorrow, who produced and directed Jurassic World will be back to helm both films and Steven Spielberg will be there to guide the production along. The next sequel is expected sometime in June 2018.

As explained by Langley to the The Hollywood Reporter:

[Director] Colin Trevorrow is buys working on an outline. He’s been working with Steven [Spielberg]. And they have an idea for the next two movies actually. It was designed as a trilogy, unbeknown to us. It’s a happy surprise.

The sequels, if as successful as the first movie will earn the studio billions more once they have hit, and it has already been confirmed that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas will in fact be back for another movie at the very least. Whether or not they’re heading back to once again face the dinos is anyone’s guess but here’s hoping that they won’t tank as badly as Jurassic Park III.
