For years now, DC and Marvel fans have been butting heads with each other. This became even more apparent after Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad got slaughtered by the critics.
Batman V Superman has a 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while Suicide Squad, a mere 25%. This caused DC fans all over the world to retaliate against film critics and Rotten Tomatoes. DC fanboys even accused critics of being bought over by Marvel. Yeap, Marvel totally paid us, critics, off. That’s why I’m staying in a tiny RM 400 rented room and driving a luxury sports car, Perodua Myvi. Some fans even started signing petitions. “SHUT DOWN ROTTEN TOMATOES” they screamed.
Well, guess what? Kevin Feige has just said that there isn’t an actual rivalry going on between DC and Marvel. DC (under Warner Bros) and Marvel Studios don’t hate each other. #GASP!
In an interview with AlloCine, Feige had this to say:
There’s not really a rivalry. The rivalry is much more amongst the press, I think. Geoff Johns is a very good friend of mine. We grew up together in the business and recently celebrated Richard Donner, who we both used to work for. So, I applaud all the success he’s had. I really just look at it as a fan. When the movies perform well and are well received, it’s good for us – which is why I’m always rooting for them.
The success of Wonder Woman is wonderful. It makes us incredibly happy. Finally, we can put to rest the falsehood that audiences don’t want to see female characters. We never believed that was true. There were a run of movies that just weren’t very good 10-15 years ago that caused that reputation. I’m glad that Wonder Woman has blown that away.
There you have it, folks. There’s no need to fight. One can like both DC and Marvel, just like one can like both Star Wars and Star Trek. Oops, did I just reignite another rivalry?
Wonder Woman – a totally BADASS film, btw – is out in cinemas right now. CHECK IT OUT!
