With Kimi No Na Wa (Your Name) being the roaring success it is, it’s not surprising that the people behind it will be sussed out to replicate their work on a variety of things. This would include commercial work and that’s exactly what they’ve been working on.
The anime in question is called Road to You and it’s actually an anime short ad produced by Sumitomo Dunlop Tyres and The Answer studio, the people behind Kimi No Na Wa (Your Name).
The anime short will also feature characters designed by Shin Takahashi, who has worked on Saikano, with music by Keina Suda who is the Vocaloid producer formerly known as Balloon. And if you’re wondering when it’ll be released, it’ll be on 11 October and you can catch it over here.
As weird as some of you find that a tire company would be doing an anime ad, it isn’t as uncommon as you’d think. Various brands have used anime as part of their advertising campaign most notable of which include McDonald’s recruitment campaign ad, Subaru’s Wish Upon the Pleiades, which they did in collaboration with Gainax, and even Nissin Noodles with their Kiki’s Delivery service collaboration.
So having a tire company do an anime ad, isn’t exactly weird, at least in Japan.
