Japanese giant publisher Kadokawa has announced that Natume Akatsuki’s fantasy comedy light novel series, Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o!/この素晴らしい世界に祝福を! (Gifting this Wonderful World with Blessings!) anime is in the works with Studio Deen (pupa, Bakamatsu Rock).
Published in October 2013, the light novel franchise has six volumes so far with a spin off series will have it’s third volume out by end of this month. A manga based on the franchise illustrated by Masahito Watari has been serialized in Monthly Dragon Age since October 2014 with one tankubon volume out so far.

The premise of the story is about a shut-in or hikikomori boy Kazuma Sato who is obsessed with games. However, he is killed in an accident but he encounters a very beautiful girl named Aqua who gave him a second chance to live in a new world. She said he can bring one item from the former world to the new world and he choose Aqua herself. Then hilarity ensues as he is trying make a living with her in the new world.

Takaomi Kanasaki (Is This a Zombie?, Tokyo Ravens) is set to direct the TV series with character designer Kouichi Kikuta (key art animator for Nisekoi, Yurikuma Arashi). Makoto Uezu (Assassination Classroom, The Heroic Legend of Arslan) works on series composition. No news on who will be the voice actors yet or when it will be aired though.
It looks like another lighthearted take on fantasy genre with multiple female characters surrounding one hopeless idiot.
