Right on the trail of the life-sized Gundam statue being taken down at DiverCity Tokyo, comes a new life-sized Gundam Unicorn to take its place!

The closing ceremony for the previous statue (RX-78-2 mobile suit – as you’ll see below) was held on Sunday, to a live performance of music from the first Mobile Suit Gundam anime as well as a parting message from Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino. The new statue will be erected in the exact same spot on the island of Odaiba, in front of the DiverCity Tokyo mall.

The Gundam Front Tokyo attraction on the 7th floor of the mall will also close 5 April this year.

The new statue, is none other than the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam UC. The Gundam Fanclub website treats us to a concept image of the mobile suit:

Gundam Unicorn will be on display starting Fall 2017. Perhaps this is the start of a trend of cycling statues to be displayed at the site? who knows! At least they gave RX-78-2 a good send off.
