Gaming notebooks are a dime-a-dozen but what about a liquid-cooled one? That’s exactly what ASUS’ ROG GX700 gaming notebook is and it’s now available in Malaysia.
Now you might think we’re joking when we say liquid-cooled notebook. After all, that has always been a desktop-only affair since you need space to run the liquid coolants. ASUS took a slightly different approach with the ROG GX700.
To be exact, the notebook on its own isn’t liquid-cooled. It’s only when the ROG GX700 is docked to its Hydro Overclocking System unit, that the liquid-cooling starts to work its magic. With this plug-and-play system, ASUS gets to keep the ROG GX700 portable (well somewhat) and performance driven when needed. In fact, once you hook both the notebook and cooling unit together, you can improve the ROG GX700’s performance up to 20% more.
On it’s own the ROG GX700 is as portable as any gaming notebook, which isn’t very much to begin with. Still, if you’re one to lug a big notebook around, it’s still portable and good enough for some quick work at a Starbucks.
It has some decent specs as well. It has a sixth-generation Intel Core i7-6820HK processor clocked at 2.7GHz with 32GB of RAM (expandable to 64GB), a desktop-grade NVIDIA GeForce GTX980 graphics card with 8GB of GDDR5 memory and 512GB of storage via 2 Raided 256GB SSDs. And with a 17.3-inch screen and a full keyboard, it’s no wonder the ROG GX700 isn’t exactly what you’d call small. On it’s own the notebook unit of the ROG GX700 weighs in at 3.6kg but when you attach the dock, it goes up to a hefty 4.8kg 8.4kg.
That’s not the end of it. Considering the massiveness of this notebook and its accessories, a normal notebook bag won’t cut it. Which is why ASUS has also included a massive travel-luggage style bag to go with the ROG GX700.
So how much can you expect to fork out for this gaming notebook? As you can expect, it’s not going to be cheap as it cost RM18,999. Well, at least it comes with its own trolley bag.
