Japanese film news site Eiga and Sanspo recently posted 13 character posters for the upcoming two live action Attack on Titan movies. Its creator, Hajime Isayama was engaged as a consultant and he even created seven new characters for the new flicks. Sanspo revealed that Hiroki Hasegawa‘s character Shikishima is a key figure of the movie, deemed “humanity’s strongest man.”
The producer Yoshihiro Sato said that he did not pay too much attention if the cast looked like the original characters because he usually goes for actors who can act out the “character’s spirits.” To appease fan worries, though, he made a point that he had many discussions with the creator of the manga for the casting approach.
The director, Shinji Higuchi (Lorelei: Witch of Ocean, The Sinking of Japan) says that with the addition of seven movie unique characters, the story will be featuring new formidable enemies. Yuusuke Watanabe (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods, Gatchaman) is the writer of the script together with creator Hajime Isayama and film critic Tomohiro Machiyama. Isao Tsuge is in charge of the costumes.
The cast members had extensive conversations with the director before the filming. The director quoted, “They carried out their roles splendidly. One part would have no less than three costume meetings, camera tests, etc. Details on the 3-D gear and costumes were custom-made so that each character matched their manga counterpart.” He added, “Isayama-sensei was a bit embarrassed when he came to the set and saw the military drills for the first time with the cast in costume. He gave them his stamp of approval.”
The films are scheduled for opening next summer.
