China is so renowned for their copycat powers that not even Doraemon can dodge it.
Recently, after seeing the massive success of Japanese Stand By Me Doraemon 3D CG movie in local cinemas, the Asian dragon decides to produce one of their own; by capitalizing on Doraemon’s lovable name. The adaptation is a live-action version instead of an animation and it is titled Bài tuō la xiǎo dīngdāng/拜托小叮铛 or Doraemon is Visitng.
According to the China Communist Party’s propaganda newspaper, People’s Daily, the film is a “very promising work based on the original manga, with many innovative elements“. At least the Chinese cat has a fondness for red bean paste cake (doriyaki) just like the original version. Does it mean in this adaptation, we going to see a talking cat?
As we can see, the Chinese Doraemon is very different from the original source by using a literal cat instead of the robot cat that the fans used to. And yes, we are quite puzzled with the presence of Ultraman’s Mother there too.
No announcement of when it will be out though.
