Cosplay once again comes under scrutiny, with the Wilayah Persekutuan Mufti, Datuk Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri declaring that the hobby is haram, especially if it shows off the aurat or resembles another religion’s deity, fictional or otherwise.
Aside from stating that “wearing a costume with the intent to resemble a character is not allowed” Datuk Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri also adds that if a costume requires a large amount of money to the point it is “wasteful” it is also haram, that the hobby, in general, is a waste of time and has no benefit.

However, he says that a costume of children’s cartoons like Didi and Friends are allowed if its only for the entertainment and education of children.
