Universal Pictures has revealed the latest installment of their highly successful Despicable Me franchise, along with details of some cast, characters and plot points during their CinemaCon presentation.

At the presentation, Illumination Entertainment executive Chris Meledandri revealed that sibling rivalry will be the key theme of Despicable Me 3. This would be due to the emergence of Gru’s long lost identical twin, Drew, which Steve Carrell will also voice in the sequel.

Drew will share the same overall look of Gru with but with the exception a full head of blond hair, and an all white clothing, a contrast to his brother’s grey toned wardrobe.

The presentation also delivered a first-look image of the villain in the sequel, Balthazar Bratt, pictured here:brattBalthazar is an 80s former child star that has been subjected to mock and ridicule after his shows were cancelled and he hit puberty. Bratt, played by South Park‘s co-creator Trey Parker, turns to world domination to exact his revenge.

The news of a Despicable Me 3 comes as no surprise to the franchise as last year’s release of its spin-off, the Minion, raked in just over a US$1 billion at the box office.

The animated film is scheduled for a June 30, 2017, release. Stay tuned as we keep you updated on the progress of Despicable Me 3.
