If you want more details for the Doctor Strange movie, its time to buckle up. During the D23 Expo, Disney unveiled the concept art for Doctor Strange.
Benedict Cumberbatch (Smaug in the Hobbit movies, BBC Sherlock) will be set to play as the titular character. The wizard starts off as a successful and well-to-do surgeon before an accident cripples his hands; which leads him to discovery of another world under guidance of the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton). Every hero needs a villain so here, Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years of Slave, Serenity) will be cast as the villain Baron Mordo.
The principal shooting of the movie will begin this November and the actor himself teased the fans with, “girls, cars, explosions, and astral projections into multiple universes. The usual fare.” He went a little bit further here, “I’m very excited to be taking on Doctor Strange for Marvel. He’s an extraordinary character and brings in a whole other dimension… hmmm… MULTIPLE dimensions to the Marvel universe.”
The director will be Scott Derrickson (Sinister) with the script originally written by Thomas Dean Donelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Conan the Barbarian) before being tweaked by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus). The director says that the movie will focus on the origin story the fans will be most familiar with. President of Marvel, Kevin Feige commented that Doctor Strange will be , “as weird as anything we’ve done.” He continues, “The goal of these films is always to continue to expand what a comic book film is, what a Marvel Cinematic Universe film is. And starting a couple years ago with Guardians of the Galaxy, this year with Ant-Man, next year with Doctor Strange, continuing to push the boundaries of that cinematic universe.”
The magic will begin at the cinemas on 4 November 2016.
