Today, Sony Pictures teased us with a first look at Chappie, District 9 and Elysium director Neil Blomkamp’s latest Sci-fi movie.
Chappie can be called a robot adventure movie if you’d like and follows the titular character, a robot with the innocence and mind of a child. Think Pinnochio, but set inan alternate/near future South Africa, similar to what was seen in Blomkamp’s District 9.
Chappie looks like it’ll be similar to District 9 in looks and story complexity. The former was a whiff of fresh air in the sci-fi genre (Elysium? Not so much) and it bodes well for Chappie if it should follow in similar vein. The script was written by the director himself in collaboration with his wife, Terri Tatchell.
There’s some big names attached to the cast of Chappie as well including Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley.
So when can we expect the movie to be out? It’s slated for a 6 March 2015 release. So check out the trailer below for a taste of some sci-fi Pinnochio-es adventure.
