House of Cards has undoubtedly been one of Netflix’s most popular series to date, giving the streaming company the much-needed boost in its early days to capture the streaming market. Five seasons on, it’s now headed into its final season in the wake of its main star, Kevin Spacey’s being accused of unwanted sexual advances on a minor.
This comes just more than 12 hours after Star Trek Discovery actor, Anthony Rapp accused Spacey publicly for making unwanted sexual advances on him 31 years ago at a party at Spacey’s New York City apartment. Rapp was 14 then and was performing in Broadway shows, some of it with spacey.
Rapp alleged that back in 1986, Spacey invited him to the latter’s place for a party and at the end of the night, made an unwanted sexual advance on Rapp by placing him on a bed and lying on top of him. Spacey was 26 back then. After the allegations by Rapp, Spacey released a statement coming out as gay but has since then been criticised for the timing of it to distract people on the sexual advance accusations.
The fallout from the allegations since then has already started with Netflix making it official that House of Cards will be cancelled after the upcoming sixth season next year. While there have been rumours that the series was soon to end, even before the Spacey scandal broke out, it seems this incident might have pushed both Netflix and producers Media Rights Capital to make the decision.
“Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey,” the companies said in a joint statement today. “In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”
House of Cards isn’t the only thing that Spacey’s involved in that has gone on the chopping block. It seems that another movie project that he is involved in, Gore, might also be pulled as well.
Spacey has since responded to the allegations with a statement on Twitter

The sixth and final season of House of Cards is set to be released around mid-2018 on Netflix. By then, we wonder if anyone would still want to watch it after this whole scandal has happened.
