On Star Wars day, Electronic Arts announced an all-new third-person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. The upcoming game will be developed by Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind the hit Titanfall game.
This would mark the first time for EA collaborate with an external studio on a Star Wars game. Aside from Respawn Entertainment, various EA owned studios are also working on Star Wars projects, this includes; Capital Games, Visceral Games, DICE, BioWare, and Motive.
Aside from the announced game, the studio is also working on a follow up to their hit game, Titanfall 2, which was first teased less than a month ago.
Multiplayer mech shooter, Titanfall marks the debut of the fledgling studio, formed by key talents of Infinity Wards, including founders Jason West and Vince Zampella.
EA Studios executive Patrick Soderlund commends the studio’s “obsession with making games that feel amazing has helped make Titanfall one of the most successful new game launches of this generation.”
For the project Soderlund is to see the results “when you combine that great attention to gameplay with the power of Star Wars.”
Leading the development is God of War 3 director, Stig Asmussen, who joined the studio two years ago. He said that this is the chance of a lifetime.
In the development of the game, he promised “to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honoured as a central game design tenet.”
Respawn’s effort will join other games developed by EA for the franchise. The publisher has previously revealed that multiple Star Wars: Battlefront sequels are in development, probably under DICE studios.
Free-to-play game, Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes is developed by Capital Games and BioWare will continue to work on the Star Wars: The Old Republic. While, the games developed by Motive and Visceral Games have yet to be unveiled.
