Empire Online has dropped new images from Alien: Covenant, and the most prominent of which is the film’s new Xenomorph, the Neomorph.

The Neomorph is apparently inspired by Ridley Scott’s appreciation of nature documentaries on living nightmares, which brings odd creatures like goblin sharks into the spotlight.

“Some of those nature videos are so stomach-churning that they don’t pay me enough to watch them,” stated screenwriter John Logan. “But Ridley will see something to do with insects swarming, for example, which eventually finds its way into a movie. Usually there’s some sort of grotesqueness we find interesting.”

The Neomorph itself, doesn’t seem to look too much like your regular Xenomorph, with a much shorter head, pallid skin and is less spiky in general. But no less deadly, as it’s seen sitting on a fresh victim.

Two more images were released in the set, featuring a huge quantity of the same alien pods seen in Prometheus, while the other shows Michael Fassbender’s David with Weyland Industries CEO, Peter Weyland.

Alien: Covenant hits the screens 19 May 2017.
