We saw Hollywood’s take on Resident Evil. Now it’s the guys who were responsible for it in the first place turn. Japan!
Sega Sammy Group’s CG animation studio, Marza Animation Planet, has announced a new, full CG feature film for Capcom’s Biohazrd/Resident Evil franchise. This is the same company famous for their full CG movie release of Space Pirate Captain Harlock in 2013.
The Biohazard/Resident Evil CG movie is set for a 2017 worldwide release and the production crew has already been confirmed for it. The movie will be directed by Takanori Tsujimoto (The Next Generation -Patlabor-, Ultraman X), with the screenplay by Makoto Fukami (Psycho-Pass, School Live/Gakkou Gurashii, Yuruyuri San Hai!).
Music will be handled by the legendary composer Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Mobile Police Patlabor) while Hiroyuki Kobayashi (Dino Crisis, Biohazard, DmC) will be the original story supervisor with Takashi Shimizu (Kiki Delivery Service live-action, Ju-On series) acting as executive producer.
The film project is being staffed with new people and will serve as a reboot of the film series. The Hollywood movies notwithstanding, there were older CG movies including Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008) and Resident Evil: Damnation (2012). For now there is no mention what the full name of this new movie will be yet.
Three characters from the game franchise will be appearing in this movie and they are Chris Redfield, Rebecca Chambers and Leon Scott Kennedy.
As for what to expect, according to the press release, the production team is promising a more horrifying story with top notch action. And if you still harbouring doubts about these guys, check out the Space Pirate Captain Harlock (2013) trailer below for a sample of their work:
