Microsoft is really pushing it in the budget phone category. They’ve just announced their new Lumia 430 and it’s coming in at an ultra low US$70 (that’s about RM260).
Labelled their “most affordable Lumia yet”, you might be wondering just what something this cheap and cheerful can offer. At that price, don’t expect any wow-ed out specifications, but you still get somewhat value for money stuff.
For starters it’s a dual-SIM phone with a 4-inch WVGA screen. In the power department you get 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor with 1GB of RAM, and even manages to squeeze in 8GB of storage with an option for expansion via microSD. Don’t expect any great selfies though as this phone is only getting a 2-megapixel camera at the rear while a pretty measely VGA 0.3-megapixel camera goes out front, but hey what should you expect from something this low priced?
Of course all of this is will run on Microsoft’s Window’s Phone 8.1 and Lumia Denim update with the promise of an upgrade to Windows Phone 10… when it eventually rolls out this year, making it the cheapest phone that will be able to run on the new platform (YAY!).
Of course for many of you, this isn’t exactly jump for joy news, and some of you might even be wondering, why Microsoft is diddling around with cheap phones when the 1020 successor is yet to be in sight. Well until Windows 10 gets released don’t expect any flagship stuff from them.
Of course with a phone this cheap, it’d make a great gift for say your grandma/grandpa/dad/mom, if they’re say looking at a basic smartphone that they need to use. So if you’re interested, Microsoft is planning an April release for certain markets, with APAC (which is where Malaysia is located) slated around that time as well, so in need of a relatively value/cheap gift, guess you’ve got something look forward to.
