Lionsgate in their hunger to finance another money-making franchise is looking to reboot Power Rangers. After all, their lucrative Mockingjay series is coming to an end soon, hence their search for the next mega-hit. Reports seem to suggest that they are pretty close to rebooting the famous series right now. The production of the reboot is expected to start later this year and opens in 2017 with Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) as director and Roberto Orci (Star Trek) as the executive producer.

Now we have a rumoured outline of the story, courtesy of the folks at the Heroic Hollywood. Beware though, this is just merely rumours so readers are advised to take it with a pinch of salt. According to Umberto Gonzalez in Heroic Hollywood, this detail mainly deals with the prologue act of the movie. Here is the summary:

The story begins during the Cretaceous period when the original Red Ranger, Zordon and his team are battling Rita and Goldar. As a last resort, Zordon detonates a black hole in his bid to destroy Rita for good.

Then viewers will meet the future members of the team going about their day from being a mechanic to a free spirited yoga practitioner 65 million years later. At some point, they find the coins of power that used to belong to Zordon and his team underneath a T.Rex fossil at the military base. Suddenly something bad happens and the teens are forced to work together for first time to save their home in Angel’s Grove, California.

While that happens, old enemies Zordon and Rita awaken despite the black hole detonation eons ago. Rita decides to revive Goldar by collecting gold from around the world while Zordon realises that the coins of power had already bonded with the untrained teenagers.  So he is forced to guide them in order to stop Rita from reviving Goldar again.
