Star Trek

Trekkies rejoice, a new Star Trek TV series has been confirmed for 2017! The new series will be part of CBS’ recently launched streaming service, CBS All Access and will be helmed by the two people who have been the key players of the franchise, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

The series is set for a January 2017 premiere with a preview broadcast on CBS. It will then be followed by an exclusive run in the US on CBS All Access.

If you’re hoping for the ongoing Star Trek reboot characters being the focus on the series, you’ll be in for a bit of a disappointment. Instead the new series installment will introduce new characters but still maintain the exploration and drama theme that has been a signature of the franchise since the beginning.

The TV series will run concurrently with the feature films though it will not be related with the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, which is scheduled for a 2016 release.

It’s been almost 10 years since the last Star Trek TV series, Star Trek Enterprise ended and it’s high time Trekkies got some TV love. What’s more, with the franchise’s 50th anniversary coming up in 2016, this would definitely be a boost the franchise needs. After all, Star Wars can’t be having all the fun.
