Following some Pokemon Go players mysteriously obtaining Legendary Pokemon, Niantic moves to remove them for the sake of fairness, especially since said Legendaries weren’t intended to be in players hands.
This basically was done after reports came about that a trainer from Ohio claimed that she had received an Articuno as a gift from Niantic after reporting an issue with the game. However, Niantic denies that the Legendary Bird was not from them, either being a spoof or the result of a hack.
Here’s the full statement from Niantic:
We recently noticed that a few Legendary Pokémon got into a few accounts when they shouldn’t have. To preserve the game’s integrity and as a measure of fairness, we have rectified the situation and revoked the Legendary Pokémon from the Trainers’ accounts.
Niantic didn’t disclose the accounts in question or the dates they were removed or which of the specific Pokemon were taken.
We still don’t know when we might be getting Pokemon Go ourselves, but hopefully we will get a chance to capture Legendary Pokemon via whichever legit means they’re supposed to be captured, if any.
