back to the future nike

Back to the Future day has come and gone, and unless you’ve never seen the movie (or live under a social-media isolated rock) you should know about the movie’s depiction of what 2015 should have looked like. Alas, our reality is nothing like that of the movie but Marty’s power-laced Nike sneakers are a now the real deal.

While the Nike Mag was originally released in 2011, they didn’t include the self lacing aspect that was seen in Back to the Future part II.

The shoes have been confirmed to hit the market in spring 2016, with Nike being proud to have turned this bit of sci-fi into reality. They also stated that the “power lace” technology is still in its early stages, but the brand is keen on bringing it to their other footware in the future (hee).

The first pair of functional Nike Mags are currently in NYC, and Nike sent a pair actor Michael J. Fox, who is already wearing the pair. As for how limited edition the shoes will be, there is no word on pricing but they will be auctioned off to benefit the The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
