It’s easy to forget the game publisher and manufacturer actually runs a larger ship than just Mario and Zelda. The Nintendo company charter has been updated with a line about medical equipment and health devices.
Nintendo has been experiencing poor sales in its gaming division – the Wii U failed to compete against rivals Sony and Microsoft to the Japanese company’s satisfaction. With the company hoping to fix things with the launch of a new console next year (the NX) its latest earnings report saw a 40% drop in profits.
Quality of life assistance devices may be a move to diversify the company and inoculate against poor games sector performance in the future. Nintendo also last year announced it would be building rides for Universal Studios Japan, and recently released a smartphone game, Miitomo.
Nintendo has had a line in office equipment and restaurant management for some time, and it feels only natural in that light that they may want to push some Dr Mario instead.
