Pokemon GO global rollout delayed

So there’s been big rumours going around about the release of Pokemon GO in South East Asia (SEA) by tomorrow (as of the time of this article being published) and many eager trainer wannabes are eagerly hoping to play the game by this weekend.

Well, this official statement from Niantic Labs might just burst your bubble as it seems that the rumours are just that, rumours.

Update: It’s now 12.30pm (+8 GMT) here in Malaysia, about 3 plus hours from the purported time Pokemon GO was supposed to hit the country and guess what? No Pokemon Go. We’ll continue to monitor releases but our advice to those eager to get the game, just be patient.

Gaming site IGN had reached out to fortyseven.com, the agency that represents Niantic Labs to verify if the rumours were true and were told that no announced plans were afoot aside from the currently announced countries.

The email that was sent back read:

“The team is currently heads down working on the game. We do not have any announced plans for countries beyond New Zealand, Australia, US and Germany at the moment.”

Rumours and “confirmations” based on “insider information” having been going around that the game will hit SEA very, very soon but based on this statement from the company, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Of course, there is the slight chance that this could be a red herring PR response, however, we’d rather err on the side of caution before getting all your hopes up. That doesn’t mean we won’t be monitoring the App and Play store for that small chance the game will suddenly appear. Neither will we stop logging into our downloaded APK app to see if Pokemons have started appearing either. So just stay tuned as we update you all with more Pokemon GO related news.

Till then check out more of our Pokemon Go coverage here.
