Rumours are getting stronger on the fact that Samsung, South Korea’s darling in the smartphone world, might not go for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 for their latest flagship model, the Galaxy S6. According to Bloomberg (which means there is strong credibility to the rumour), the main reason as to why Samsung is not playing with Snapdragon this time around is because of the overheating issue of the said CPU. This represents a heavy blow to the San Diego based chip manufacturer.

Samsung may release the next Galaxy S as early as March, and it can’t dare to take the risk to use any of the chips in question for its most important model,” said Song Myung Sup, a Seoul-based analyst at HI Investment & Securities Co.

This means the new Samsung mobile will be powered by the Exynos CPU and based on how well it performed with the Galaxy Note Edge 4, this might be decisive. As Samsung is facing declining sales and profit, it is understandable that they are not taking chances with its latest flagship model.

Now, let’s look at how others are faring with the new Snapdragon. LG seems to be quite confident with their LG G Flex 2 as it seems to be doing well with the CPU, in fact going as far as denying the problem in official capacity. So is HTC with their M9 Hima if the leaked rumours were right.  Xiaomi with their recent explosive media reveal of their latest flagship phablet is noticeably quiet on the release date of their Mi Note Pro (the one with the 810) even in their home market. In the Bloomberg article, their spokesperson declined to comment on the overheating issue. Could it be that the Chinese manufacturer is facing the problem with it too? Their other compatriot, OnePlus did not seem to have any problems with it known to public yet as they are planning their next flagship model.

We shall know it soon when the MWC 2015 in Barcelona opens in March.
